U.S. Open Champion Retief Goosen Putts His
Way to Victory Using C-Groove Putter

June 18, 2001

Retief Goosen, U.S. Open ChampionMaking history as the champion of the 101st U.S. Open, Retief Goosen putted his way to victory using his new C-Groove putter. Having recently acquired a ProGear Model II Face-Balanced Blade, Goosen one-putted 8 out of the first 10 holes in the tournament playoff, leading to his groundbreaking victory. Having placed fifth in the English Open the week prior, and taking first in the U.S. Open, Goosen’s game, and putting prowess has shown remarkable improvement, stepping up his rankings to the top of the charts.

In a post-U.S. Open interview conducted in the USGA press room, Goosen commented on his putting success…

“It hasn't quite sunk in yet what has happened out there this week. I wasn't playing well at all this year, actually. I started hitting the ball a lot better a few weeks ago and the putter just wasn't working. And this week, putting a new putter in the bag last week, it just helped. I mean I made everything I looked at,” said Goosen.

Swash is the inventor of C-Groove technology and Hurrion, who holds a PHD in biomechanics, assists in the analysis of the high-speed video that is used in C-Groove comparison tests. Goosen worked with Swash and Hurrion and decided to use the C-Groove putter at the next European Tour event, the June 7-10 English Open. The results were almost immediate with Goosen placing 5th in the tournament, leading up to his victory at the U.S. Open.

Previously known as ProGear, Yes! Golf and its innovative line of C-Groove Putters are setting a new industry standard and changing the face of the game with the innovative technology built into each model. C-Groove technology is the invention of Harold Swash, “Europe’s Putting Doctor” who blends art, science and technology and has been responsible for many advances in the field of club design. Yes! Golf also sells a variety of putting training aids developed by Harold Swash. Read more about Harold Swash and his innovations….

C-Groove Putters feature concentric grooves precision-machined into the metal face to exacting specifications. The grooves create an immediate and pure forward roll of the ball, and minimize the 'skidding' that can cause the golf ball to veer off-course. The grooves minimize side turning resulting from an open or closed putter face on contact, and eliminate the effects of moisture (rain or dew).

Retief Goosen, U.S. Open Champion“This victory brings the C-Groove Putter to the forefront of golf technology,” said Francis Ricci, president of Yes! Golf. “We are gaining a tremendous amount of recognition in the golfing community. In fact, since last fall, we’ve received orders from Vijay Singh, Darren Clarke, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Gary Orr, Padraig Harrington, Dennis Paulson, Chris Perry, Mathias Gronberg, Andrew Coltart, Mike Weir and Paul McGinley, as well as from LPGA Tour Players Maggie Will, Alicia Dibos, Karen Weiss and Luciana Bemvenuti.”

Recently, C-Groove Putters were evaluated by PGA Tour Partners, an organization of 500,000+ golfers. The putters earned an unprecedented 100% favorable review in the putter category with a buy rating and the member-tested “Seal of Approval” as noted in the March/April 2001 magazine. PGA Tour Partners regularly sends new golf products and equipment to groups of members for unbiased review and testing.

C-Groove Putters also recently received the highest ranking in the “Best of the Best” category by Rankmark, America’s premier golf testing company.

About Yes! Golf

C-Groove technology is the invention of world-renowned putting guru, Harold Swash, who has coached some of the top professional players in the world, including members of the European Ryder Cup team. All C-Groove putters have grooves etched at 20-degree angles into the putter face to promote more dwell time. The grooves create an immediate pure forward roll, thus increasing the chance of the ball staying on line to the hole. C-Groove putters produce up to a 600% purer roll than leading brands.

All C-Groove putters conform with USGA and Royal and Ancient Golf Club specifications. YES! Golf, the company that manufactures C-Groove putters, is located in Denver, Colorado.
