"Quintic Software: In these days of excellence and high standards an athlete must excel to achieve at international level. Their equipment must be the best and their training and training aids second to none. If all these criteria are met then there is a chance the athlete will do well.

As a coach you must strive to give your athlete the best possible chance to do their best. You must have the tools to be able to see and correct small faults. Using the Quintic software gives us that ability.

I believe that the Quintic software gives our team a fantastic advantage in training or during competition. It means we are able to focus on the areas where time is lost or small mistakes are made. We are able to compare one team against another, using the main screen and best screen, and see which team has the best line on the track and then try to follow that line. There are so many good facilities in this programme that we have still not used the programme to its full potential.

(Don’t tell anyone, but you can even use it at the weekend to improve your golf swing)!!!!!!!!!"

"Championships are won by hundredths of a second in skeleton. The evidence Quintic provides will help us to find those extra hundredths at the start and during key corners. The athletes and coaches found the computer software invaluable. Led by our coaches each athlete can now take personal responsibility for their own performance analysis."

"It is amazing how the road of life leads you to some pretty weird pieces and back!

After doing some 22 years in the Army I decided to attend the EGTF instructors course at Pedham Place from 23-30 September 2000. It was my intention to go back out to Germany, where I had spent most of my Army career, to teach golf if possible. Being a German speaker and having assisted at a club in Austria, I was keen to pass on my knowledge of the sport to others in Europe. I attended the excellently run course (I have to say that as the President was running it!) and learnt so much more about the game I love. There was great emphasis on the way to teach correctly and how best to pass on the information to students. We were taught the art of teaching golf and also shown many useful training aids. One of these was the Quintic program. A fantastic piece of software, which is used to analyse the swing and can show two golfers in sync, so that you can compare a beginners swing with the instructor's correct swing.

As it turned out I was offered a job in another sporting field - Bobsleighing. Yes, pretty similar I know (not!) but I had been involved with the team as an athlete and coach for 10 years. Whilst working with the British Men and Women's Bobsleigh Team and Dutch Women's Team I started to use the Quintic software more and more and can now see the great benefits this program has to offer. It was written by Dr Paul Hurrion, himself a member of the EGTF. If you get the chance to test this software out, do it, it is really good. The skills that I learnt on the course at Pedham Place have no doubt helped with the way I now coach in other sports. We were taught a great lesson in the correct way of dealing with students and the use of people skills. One of the reasons I was given the job of coaching and manager (I was later told!!) was due to the way I handled athletes and my manner with them. This was one of the lessons we were taught on the EGTF course. It worked for me! I will be involved with winter sports for at least one more year but possibly four, but I have now started to use the technology I possess to teach friends and colleagues how to improve their golf swing. This will at least keep me in practice and hopefully I will be teaching golf in the years to come.

Finally, thanks to all those at EGTF for passing on their knowledge to us, so that we may pass it on to others."
